It has been quite a while since the restoration shaman has any adjustments with regards to its skills and talents. I guess it is about time that this can be seen and implored by many. To start the ball rolling we will discuss the cleansing waters, blessing of the eternals, purification, soothing rains and the healing surge and its changes come build 12942.

For the cleansing waters, whenever you do a clean spirit effectively, this will removes harmful effects and can also heal your target from 1,341 to 1,462. You might also find the buff helpful as it also increases from the initial 958 to 1,039. The blessing of the eternals can no longer grant spell critical strike rating. Thus, you need to be specifically mindful about this one. Purification on the other hand reduces the casting time of your greater healing wave and healing wave by 0.5 seconds. You might then consider this as something good to spam. Soothing rains is the new name for Restorative totems. This will now increase the healed amount by your healing stream totem by 25/50%. In turn your healing rain spell will also be changed by 15/30%. Healing surge which is the last in this list is formerly known as lesser healing wave.

Cleansing waters is now buff which will be quite handy in the Twilight Highlands. Every single time you would remove a particular curse or even a magic effect, you can actually get one free heal. Of course as an avid WoW player, heal is something we must be really concerned about in order to last long in the game. Blessing of the eternals unfortunately can no longer grant spell critical strike. As such there has been a big movement to somehow get rid of our passive critical strike bonus. Purification for the meantime allows reduce cast time for any shaman’s healing wave and greater healing wave. This is in fact one good news for any shaman player out there since any reduce cast time is a positive onset for them.

Soothing rains will replace the former restorative totems and it even includes a healing rain boost. This somehow adds 30% buff which is relatively nice for the shamans. The former lesser healing wave will now be known as healing surge. The effect is the same though so expect just a little change for this one.

Depending on the element chosen, it will also grant you different scales like health that can increase party resistance to health that slows enemy’s movement speed. Totems are very handy but must be carried out and protected carefully.

With the dawn of Cataclysm, the shaman class will also be affected. For those players who are handling one better read on as we are giving you important updates on the changes of your class. One thing to look forward to when the new expansion would set in is their new talents. These are focused strikes, ancestral swiftness, searing flames, totemic vigor and improved lava lash.

Focused strikes are awesome for enhancement leveling that can really aid low level shamans. This is one wonderful spell that can effectively kill mobs by simply casting lightning bolt. Much more primal strikes will be the low version of stormstrike. In order to enhance it you need a talent that will serve as a key. In addition, there would also be a 40% additional damage on top of SS at the max level that can serve as a primary damaging tool.

Ancestral swiftness is another interesting component. This will surely give shamans an edge in terms of run speed and in staying alive. Thus all the running around melee will need to do for target switches and avoidance of damage. Lightning overload, mimiron and yogg-saron getting to safety, run from ghosts to chasing volatile experiments and even defiles on lichii poo, you can definitely use your ancestral swiftness to do these things. Much more it only requires three talent points.

Totemic vigor would now be enhanced come Cataclysm. The totem’s shield will somehow give you a fixed amount of health and can be boosted by the glyph. As a shaman you can definitely maximize and reap the benefits of totem heath. Searing flames and improved lava lash are also important components of you being a shaman. Searing totem can now get a buff on single target fights. Not managing a magma totem on the other hand means one less cooldown. But do take note it adds a new boss debuff that needs to be monitored. Searing totem cast every 2.6 seconds is equivalent to 13 seconds from planting the totem to the 5th stack or putting 10.4 seconds from the application of the 1st stack to the 5th. Another thing to anticipate is the increase of the Lava lash to 130% damage. This is like 30% plus 20% per stack of searing multiplied by 5.
