The World of Warcraft Druid class is a rare class. It can utilize shape-shifting abilities to gain a huge advantage at certain times. Its versatility makes for a very useful character in raids and instances. It can tank mobs with its BEAR/DIRE BEAR form, deal an insane amount of DPS like Rogues with its CAT or MOONKIN form, get to places with its TRAVEL FORM and heal like priests in TREE FORM.
The World of Warcraft Druid’s BEAR form is like a warrior character and is best for leveling up fast. The BEAR is also useful for parties in need of tank. The BEAR form also has spell/skill-interrupting skills like TAUNT and STUN.
The Druid’s CAT form can be used for dishing out maximum damage at a faster rate. The form also comes with threat reducing abilities. The PROWL skill, the stealth counterpart of Druids, allows the Druids to sneak around an opponent and hit them where it hurts while surprising them.
If you feel like dishing out maximum range damage, then the MOONKIN form is best. Whilst in this form, your armor increases to as much as 200% and enables you to use spells without worrying about mana. There are speculations that Moonkins are able to dish out more DPS than mages and rogues, but I guess it all comes down to gameplay and gear. Spells like Hurricane, Typhoon are useful AOE or Area of Effect spells and is great for dealing amounts of damages in a certain radius and is sought after by groups doing instances and raids. The DPS spells like Insect Swarm, Moonfire hurt like hell as the level increases and Opener spells such as Starfall and Wrath gives out maximum damage at the first engagement of combat.
Aside from being able to dish out damage, Druids can also play the vital role of healing with its RESTORATION branch of talent tree. Druids utilizing this talent tree enable the maximum amount of healing spells which makes them very useful for raids and instances.
The Druid class is by far the most versatile class in World of Warcraft, with each of its talent trees maximizing the roles that you want to fulfill. Tanking or doing Rogue-like skills? Take the FERAL tree. Want to do ranged DPS and AOE? Choose the BALANCE tree. Want to support your group? RESTORATION is the way to go.
All in all, it comes down to gameplay preference.
